Carolina TESOL Distinguished Service Award

The Carolina TESOL Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals and organizations, from North and South Carolina for outstanding service other than teaching or research. The recipient’s service is of primary importance to the profession of ESOL, a contribution with such an impact, either socially or legally, that it brings forth a positive recognition to the profession of ESOL.

The Distinguished Service Award must be presented by the President during the Members luncheon ceremony at the Carolina TESOL annual conference. It may not be awarded in absentia. Approval of the award is kept confidential prior to the presentation so that the award will come as a surprise to the recipient.

Eligibility Requirements

Nominee does not have to be a Carolina TESOL member. Contributions must directly benefit the ESOL profession within three previous calendar years. Nominee may receive the Distinguished Service Award only once.

Criteria and Nomination Process

The nomination is addressed to the Carolina TESOL Executive Board President who in turn will forward nomination to the Nominating Committee. The committee reviews the qualifications of all nominees and forwards its confidential recommendation of all qualified nominees to the Executive Board. The Executive Board has the authority to accept or reject the recommendations and to select an appropriate recipient.

October 15 each year

Materials Required to Nominate a Candidate

A nominating letter from an active Carolina TESOL member, including a 2 page biography with specific information about the nominee’s service to the profession of ESOL, indicating dates, assignments, titles, and other pertinent data. Additional letters of support while optional are welcome.
